Adjusting Network Settings on iPhone
Most iPhones configure automatically after activation.
If you’re experiencing issues with data, picture messaging (MMS), or connecting to the network, follow the steps below.
Start With a Restart
Before changing any settings:
- Power your iPhone off completely.
- Wait 30 seconds.
- Turn it back on.
If service doesn’t restore, continue below.
Make Sure Cellular Data Is On
- Open Settings
- Tap Cellular
- Make sure Cellular Data is turned on
If it’s already on, toggle it off and back on.
Check Your Cellular Plan (eSIM Users)
If you’re using eSIM:
- Go to Settings
- Tap Cellular
- Confirm your Switch plan appears
- Make sure the line is turned on
If multiple lines are installed, confirm Switch is selected for:
- Cellular Data
- Default Voice Line
Reset Network Settings
Resetting network settings often resolves data or signal issues.
- Open Settings
- Tap General
- Tap Transfer or Reset iPhone
- Tap Reset
- Select Reset Network Settings
This will not erase photos or apps.
It will remove saved Wi-Fi passwords and Bluetooth pairings.
Restart your phone after the reset.
Check Network Selection
- Open Settings
- Tap Cellular
- Tap Network Selection
- Make sure Automatic is turned on
This allows your phone to connect to the strongest available signal.
MMS & Group Messaging
If picture messages or group texts aren’t working:
- Open Settings
- Tap Messages
- Make sure MMS Messaging is turned on
- Make sure Group Messaging is turned on
You may also need Cellular Data enabled for MMS to work.
Update Carrier Settings
Occasionally, iOS prompts you to update carrier settings.
If you see a pop-up that says “Carrier Settings Update,” tap Update.
You can also check manually:
- Open Settings
- Tap General
- Tap About
- Wait a few seconds to see if an update prompt appears
No Service After Activation?
Try this:
- Toggle Airplane Mode on and off
- Confirm your SIM is inserted correctly (if using physical SIM)
- Confirm your phone is unlocked
- Check coverage in your area
If your number was recently transferred, activation may still be processing. Some transfers can take a few hours.
